1 . Eating for good vision

Protect your eyes starts with the food on your plate . Studies have shown that nutrients such as omega - 3 fatty acids , lutein , zinc and vitamins C and E may help ward off vision problems such as age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. Eating these foods regularly can help to complete eye health :

Green leafy vegetables such as spinach , kale , cabbage and
Salmon, tuna and other fatty fish
Eggs, nuts , beans and other non-meat sources of protein
Citrus fruits such as oranges
Eating a well balanced diet also helps you maintain a healthy weight , which makes you less likely to get diseases related to obesity such as type 2 diabetes . Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in adults.

2 . Stop smoking for a better Ophthalmology

Smoking makes you more likely to get cataracts, optic nerve damage , and macular degeneration. If you've tried to quit before and started smoking again , keep trying. Studies show that the more times you try to quit , the more likely you are to succeed.

3 . Wear sunglasses for good vision

The sunglasses will help you protect your eyes against the  ultraviolet rays (UV) of sun.
Exposure to excessive UV makes you more likely to get cataracts and macular degeneration.
Choose sunglasses that block 99% to 100 % of UVA and UVB rays. Panoramic lenses will protect your eyes from the side. While driving polarized lenses reduce glare.
If you wear contact lenses, some offer UV protection. It is always a good idea to wear sunglasses for protection .

4 . Use safety glasses at home , at work, and doing sports

When working with hazardous materials or air, wear safety goggles or safety glasses every time.

Some sports such as ice hockey, racquetball, and lacrosse can also lead to eye injuries . Wear eye protection (such as helmets with face shields or sports glasses with polycarbonate lenses ) to protect your eyes.

5 . Look away from the computer for good eye health

Watching a computer screen can cause:

eyestrain
blurred vision
Difficulty concentrating at a distance
Dry eyes
Headaches
Neck, back and shoulder pain

Protect the health of your eyes by following measures :

Confirm that your glasses or contact lens prescription is current and right for the use of the computer.
Some people might require glasses to help with contrast , glare and eye strain when using a computer.
Position your computer so that your eyes are level with the top of the screen . This allows you to look slightly down on the screen.
Try to avoid glare on your computer windows and lights. Use an anti -glare screen if necessary .
Choose a comfortable chair and support. Position so that your feet are flat on the floor.
If your eyes are dry, blinking.
Every 20 minutes , rest your eyes at 20 meters for 20 seconds. At least every two hours , get up and take a break for 15 minutes.
