What Is Health


The word means different things to different people health , depending on the situation. If one says, " I am tensed my husband's health when he ascent of Mt. Everest , " it is clear that the woman refers to the physical health of her husband, perhaps his heart , skin ( frostbite) and the risk of developing hypothermia (when body temperature drops too low.

Besides, if you heard the phrase " With all these deadlines, presentations and weekend work , I wonder what will be the effect on his health , " probably the word "health" refers more mental health physical health (although the two are often related) .

The words " health" or " healthy" can also be used in non contexts - Medical . For example, " needs a healthy economy an ideal rate of GDP growth that is sustainable, which remains in the expansion phase of the business cycle as long as possible. "

The word " health " comes from the Old English word hale , meaning "integrity, being whole, sound or well , " . Hale comes from Kailo Indo-European root , meaning " whole, free auspicious " . Kailo khalbas roots comes from Proto-Germanic , which means "something divided ."

Modern definition of health was created in a preamble to the Constitution of the World Health Organization adopted by the International health Conference , New York , 19-22 June, 1946, signed 22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61 States (Official Records of the World health Organization , No. 2 , p 100 . ). and entered into troop April 7, 1948 .

"Health is a state of well -being and not merely the absence of disease or physical infirmity , mental and social . "

There has not been amended the definition, since 1948.

At the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion in 1986, the WHO declared that health is :

" A resource for everyday life , not the goal of healthy life." The WHO fits definition is issued by Lancet, An article Lancet indicates that health is not a "state of physical, mental, and social being." Is not " merely the absence or infirmity ." The article tells that the WHO definition of health will not do in a year marked by new understandings of disease at time molecular , individual and societal . (The Lancet , Volume 373 , Issue 9666 , page 78I 7th March, 2009 ) .
